AN ALL-TIME FAVOURITE RETURNS

Our original Black Baron was the first twin fin ever released in the JS range, coinciding with Parko’s focus on the pure enjoyment of surfing after retiring from the world tour. Since then we’ve continued to ride it everywhere, and with more requests than any other board to return to the range - now it’s finally back. With all of the same strengths and a few key updates. A subtle flyer allows us to maintain more width through the middle, but with a relatively pulled in swallow tail for flow and control. There’s also a slightly fuller nose outline with extra volume hidden under the chest / front foot, providing increased glide and paddle power in weak conditions.

What hasn’t changed – the Black Baron is still equal parts old school speed and new school flair. Foam in all the right places to float over soft sections and fly down the line, yet still allow you to lay it on rail or bust the fins even when you’re going Mach 10. Parko’s overwhelming standout from all of our R&D combined a flat rocker with vee throughout the board from nose to tail, with a balanced, maneuverable plan shape. JS also tested the twin in a huge range of waves, from tiny beach breaks at home on the Gold Coast, to perfect overhead Cloudbreak. His favourite board? The exact same as Joel’s, with the perfect blend of strengths to make the most versatile twin of ‘em all – our Black Baron.

Whether you’re surfing weak beachies or quality, down the line points and reefs, the Black Baron is a hybrid that allows you to take whatever approach you’re interested in, from exploring fresh lines and seeing how fast you can go on a wave, to combining sharp rail turns with throwing the tail. Whatever way you go, it’s all about maximum fun.

Wave Type

Black Baron performs best in flatter waves where you're looking to generate your own speed.

Features

Rocker

An overall low to flat rocker is well suited to create speed and glide in small to average conditions.

Fin setup

Black Baron comes stock as a twin fin, recommended to be paired with JS Hydroglass or Carbotune Twin Fins. Alternative setups are available with custom orders.

Glassing specs

Boards are glassed standard with 4 oz. deck x 4 oz. bottom. (All sizes come standard with Hybrid Fibre tail strips).

Rail type

The Black Baron features a low, slight down rail that flows naturally from its flat deck design, which hides volume in all the right places for added float, while still allowing for high-speed turns.

Concave

Black Baron features a VEE throughout the board from nose to tail with added double concave through the fins. This design helps rock the board from rail to rail with ease.
